Working with Les Johnson (sculptor) and the Weta team on the the Sir Keith Park memorial statue (for Trafalgar Square, London) inspired me to sculpt the two figures for my 54mm (1/32nd scale) range of historical miniatures... Born in Thames, New Zealand in 1892 the son of a mining geologist, Keith Rodney Park fought at Gallipoli and the Somme. Later, in the Second World War he became Air Vice-Marshal of the RAF. The Germans gave him the moniker "The Defender of London" and Lord Tedder, Marshal of the RAF, declared "If ever any one man won the battle of Britain, he did. I dont believe it is recognised how much this one man, with his leadership, his calm judgement and his skill, did to save not only this country, but the world."
